“It is not too much to say that no other contemporary Australian Churchman has had a more original mind or has shown a more penetrating insight into questions of pure Theology, and that insight was derived from his understanding of the supreme revelation of truth in the Bible.”
Sir Marcus Loane's assessment of D. B. Knox would be shared by many who knew him. And yet the vast bulk of Christians, both in Australia and overseas, know little of Broughton Knox's massive influence on Australian Christianity, let alone his impressive literary output.
Volume I includes: The Everlasting God, Dr Knox's most well-known work (reprinted unabridged, but with the addition of extensive Scriptural footnoting); a selection of theological works, ranging from sermons to scholarly articles and radio talks, all related in some way to the Christian worldview as it shaped by the doctrine of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; an index of ‘Knox Gems’; and general and biblical indices.
Volume II includes: material relating to Dr Knox's influential doctrine of church, known as the ‘Knox-Robinson’ thesis; a fascinating study on New Testament Baptism; statements on the Lord's Supper, and a refutation of Roman Catholic views; and comprehensive general and biblical indices.
Volume III includes: ‘The Gospel of the New Testament’, an unfinished and previously unpublished manuscript on the nature of the New Testament ‘gospel’; material expounding the Christian response to the gospel; articles adapted from his radio broadcasts and chapel sermons on how the gospel shapes the Christian's relationship to broader society; and comprehensive general and biblical indices.
Broughton Knox served as Principal of Moore Theological College from 1959 to 1985 and profoundly influenced the Church in Sydney and beyond.
