  1. Good Resource I use for Weddings Review / Tip by Matt Olliffe

Great resource, my first port of call for the outsider coming to have a Christian Wedding, been using it since it came out. Not too heavy, not too light. Great because it brings the gospel out through the thoughtful questions about love, sets up the correct anthropology (you're marrying a sinner, here), and is not embarrased about Eph 5. You can point the couple straight to the Appendix with bible readings for Your Wedding, as you hand them a bible. Gives a non-church couple a good reason to read the bible together. Also, in bible study 4, you cannot escape getting the couple to think about their eternal salvation, and that is fantastic. Almost always have very positive conversations. You can do it in 2 meetings of 2 hours each. I also take the couple through the wedding service I'm using, usually form 2 AAPB, at the end of session 4.

If MM is ever thinking of a new edition, it would be good to (1) have 2WTL or something at the beginning so we share the gospel with them up front (2) have some of the modern Anglican forms, e.g. AAPB 1978 or the 'Common Prayer' forms for a next edition (if copyright permits). That would make it a 'one stop shop'. If not, just leave it with the modified 1662 (3) Also, would be great to have something that deals with the biblical view of sex and 1 Corinthians 7. This would be good up front, so that we can perhaps give people an opportunity for repentance in this area if necessary, especially with the high rates of co-habitation (4) Also something on Matthew 19/Genesis 1 & 2 which establishes the permanency of marriage, the creational intent of male & female, and the place of children, especially 'male and female' is increasingly not seen by outsiders as of the essence of marriage. We need to show Jesus' positive teaching about marriage in Matthew 19:4-6; (5) Another observation would be, in our Brave New World of Every Man Doing What is Good in His Own Eyes Regarding Bible Translations, to make it bible translation neutral. That is, don't put passages in it in the ESV. Simply cite the chapter and verse, and we can get the couple to look it up in the bible that we are using at church. (Posted on 29/03/2014)
