I've read The Trellis and the Vine. What's next?
How you respond to the principles in The Trellis and the Vine is, of course, very dependent on your specific situation and role. But here are some general thoughts and ideas…
Pray for wisdom and a humble willingness (for you and others) to make decisions and changes that will, under God, grow the gospel.
Become an active partner in GoThereFor.com. This is a site which we started in 2013 to provide ongoing resources, ideas and encouragement for people committed to being and growing disciple-making disciples.
Consider attending a Trellis and Vine Workshop where you can work through the principles and develop an action plan with the help of some expert guidance and in the fellowship of others doing the same exercise. These workshops are run by Vinegrowers in Australia. Vinegrowers also offer a coaching service.
Choose one person and just start reading the Bible with them. David Helm’s little book, One–to-One Bible Reading: a simple guide for every Christian, gives you all the guidance you need to get under way. If you choose to meet with someone who hasn’t been a Christian that long, you could work through the Just for Starters studies and use Preparing Just for Starters to help you in your preparation.
Gather a core group to do The Course of Your Life together. This Course is designed to be the 'Trellis and Vine' training course for every Christian. It seeks to revolutionize hearts and minds by focusing on who God is, what he has done in Christ, what his plans are for the world and for us. See the Course web site for more information or call John Sammut.
If The Course of Your Life is just too big a commitment for you and/or your group at the moment, you might like to try the Six Steps to Loving Your Church course. This is a shorter, less intense DVD-based course that helps you make a start towards a 'vine-growing' culture by changing the mind-set of people as they walk into church each Sunday.
