<title>The Future of Jesus</title>
<link>http://www.matthiasmedia.com.au/usa/index.php/</link>
<description>

The book of Dr Peter Jensen&apos;s 2005 ABC Boyer Lecture series quickly sold out when first published by the ABC in Australia. But this book is too important to let it remain out of print, so Matthias Media is very pleased to be able to make it available again, and this time to a wider readership, not just in Australia but also overseas.

Archbishop Jensen challenges both believers and unbelievers to take a fresh look at the person of Jesus and his significance in our history, our present and our future. A superb evangelistic book for the more thoughtful reader.

<title>The Art of Living</title>
<link>http://www.matthiasmedia.com.au/usa/index.php/</link>
<description>8 studies on Proverbs

&amp;#8220;How should I live my life?&amp;#8221; This is a pertinent question not just for Christians but for non-Christians too, judging by the shelves and shelves of self-help books you see in your local bookstore, and the letters pages of certain magazines. There are people wanting advice about all sorts of things, like &amp;#8220;Which job should I take?&amp;#8221;, &amp;#8220;What should I say to my friend whose mother died recently?&amp;#8221;, &amp;#8220;What&apos;s the best thing to do in this situation?&amp;#8221;, and so on. The answers come not just from self-help books and magazine columns, but from a variety of sources: your family, your friends, your colleagues, your minister and other people you respect. Some of it is common knowledge; some of it is folk wisdom. As the old sayings go, &amp;#8220;Too many cooks spoil the broth&amp;#8221;, &amp;#8220;A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush&amp;#8221; and &amp;#8220;Don&apos;t count your chickens before they hatch&amp;#8221;.

However, when it comes to the art of living, the book of Proverbs is really the best authority on how to live, because its wisdom is no less than the wisdom of God&amp;#8212;the God who created it all and knows it all. Indeed, the most important lesson on wisdom that Proverbs has to teach can be found in the very first chapter: &amp;#8220;The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge&amp;#8221; (Prov 1:7).

Proverbs is filled with rich instruction on how to live&amp;#8212;how to spend our money, how to work, what to say (and how to say it) and a whole host of other topics. In these studies, Bryson Smith helps you to understand what true wisdom is&amp;#8212;and how true wisdom is ultimately found in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.

<title>By God&apos;s Word</title>
<link>http://www.matthiasmedia.com.au/usa/index.php/</link>
<description>

The Scriptures are the glasses by which we bring the world into focus. When we look through the glasses of Scripture, we see God and his world and his people and ourselves more clearly. There are some things&amp;#8212;especially about God&amp;#8212;that we would never see at all without the Scriptures. There are many things about the world, others and ourselves that we would see in a completely distorted fashion without these glasses. The word of God changes our perspective.

Each week for the last few years, internationally renowned preacher and evangelist Phillip Jensen has written a short essay for the congregations he serves at St Andrew&apos;s Anglican Cathedral in Sydney about living in God&apos;s world, from the perspective of God’s word.

By God&apos;s Word is a collection of 60 of the best of these essays or reflections, which offer warm encouragement to live by God&apos;s word in every aspect of our lives&amp;#8212;from prayer to politics, from forgiveness to fatherhood, and from drought to democracy. Each reflection is also followed by a Bible passage for further thought and reflection.

<title>Living with the Underworld</title>
<link>http://www.matthiasmedia.com.au/usa/index.php/</link>
<description>

Evil spirits. Demons. Ghosts. Magic. Satan.

Do these words speak of a frightening spiritual reality? Or are they the silly remnants of a more superstitious age?

The modern world seems to lurch between these two attitudes. At one level, we have never been more sceptical about ghosts and demons and Satan. And yet there are many&amp;#8212;even in Western societies&amp;#8212;who are deeply fearful of evil spiritual forces. There are yet still more who find the topic fascinating, and endlessly devour movies and TV shows that exploit these ideas and themes.

Christians also often swing between paying the devil far too much attention or not enough attention. Some Christian groups become obsessed with notions of &amp;#8216;spiritual warfare&amp;#8217; and ridding people of demons, while other Christians regard such talk&amp;#8212;even though it is found in the Bible&amp;#8212;as outdated and part of the superstitious misunderstanding of the world from less enlightened, less scientific times.

In Living with the Underworld, Peter Bolt, Head of New Testament Studies at Moore Theological College, takes readers on a breathtaking journey through the spiritual underworld revealed in the pages of Scripture, and shows how Jesus came to reveal its true nature, neutralize its power, and liberate us to live without fear.

In a Hollywood-constrained vision of angels and devils, of monsters and the living dead, of alternative worlds with goblins and terrors and sorcerers, we need to recognize where the true horrors lie, where contemporary fantasies embody them, and where they entirely miss the mark. Peter Bolt is a good guide because his &amp;#8216;take&amp;#8217; is firmly grounded in a careful reading of the Bible and in an equally sensitive grasp of twenty-first century Western culture. Besides, his book, far from being terrifyingly ponderous and gray, is a pleasure to read. It might even get you to go back and look at a recent film with fresh eyes.

Dr Don Carson (Trinity Evangelical Divinity School)
